Queens Elm Square
The site is located in the Chelsea Park/ Carlyle Conservation Area in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Queen’s Elm Square is located in a private gated square accessed from Old Church Street.
The brief was to enlarge the existing small basement by 90 sq.m beneath the existing ground floor accommodation and rear patio. The scheme created , at basement level, a new bedroom, en suite shower room, utility room, gym and home office for the occupants of the house.
The proposal also included for the formation of a new basement window opening in the front wall of the house looking onto the existing front light well . In order to retain the use of the ground floor patio, two walk over, flush sky lights were constructed in the rear patio floor which also provided natural light into the rear section of the basement.
